Understanding Different Video Formats: BRRip, WEBRip, Web-DL, DVDRip, HDTV Explained

Many people like to watch movies, and many people like to watch movies with clear images in good condition. But when you go to download a movie, the biggest problem is how to choose a torrent. What is HDRip/DVDRip? Let’s talk about it today.

Pirated movies or the movies that we download on a daily basis are extracted in different ways and are divided into many types depending on the extraction method. Here are some formats that we often see from it.

  • CAMRip
  • HDTS
  • DVDRip
  • BRRip
  • WEBRip
  • HDTV
  • HDTC
  • DVDScr
  • Web-DL

CAMRip

As the name suggests, this is captured by a handheld camera. Most of the time, a small microphone set to the camera is used to capture the audio. Because of that, the sound of people shouting in the hall and the sight of people walking are common in these copies. That’s why many people don’t like this format. Most of the time, the CamRip comes out within a week or two after the release of the movie. But the die hard fans who are waiting for the movie will not forget to watch this. Yes, this also has 720p, 1080p resolution, it is the resolution of the capture device, not the resolution of the movie.

HDTS

HDTS or High Definition Tele Sync is a slightly upgraded version of the CamRip we talked about above. It captures this using a good stabilized professional camera. The audio is not taken directly with the help of an external mic. It is connected to the camera through a direct jack, that’s why the quality of the audio is very high. If you explain how it happens, people with hearing loss in foreign countries have a place to connect their headphones and that is how they get the audio input. Although slightly better than CamRip, it cannot be satisfied. But as I said earlier, if you want to see the movie before anyone else, this is better than CamRip.

HDTC

Before knowing about HDTC, let’s see what Telecine or TK is. Telecine is a method of turning digital copies of Reels used to show movies in cinemas into video.
So HDTC stands for High Definition TeleCine. Video quality and audio quality are very good. But due to the lack of equipment and difficulty in doing this work, these HDTC copies cannot be seen in many cases.

DVDRip

It is correct to say that it is the most popular copy method. These copies are made from the DVDs that are released for purchase after the movie is shown in cinemas. Audio & Video quality is high. The reason for that is that it uses the Xvid codec (DivX) and the Mp3/AC3 Codec for the audio. The output of a DVDRip is usually in the AVI format. But sometimes DVDRip is not up to standard. The reason for that is that most of the time the quality of the DVDRip depends on the uploader. In short, the quality can vary from uploader to uploader. A major disadvantage of this is that it takes a long time to get this copy.

BRRip

Blue-ray Rip or BDRip is copied from the Blue-ray copies released at the end of a movie. A 20GB Blue-ray disc can be ripped up to 1GB so that the quality is not damaged. High quality. The reason why this type of copy is popular is that it supports devices like DVD players, PlayStations, Xbox without any problem. The format of these copies is .mkv. BRRip can be said to be an upgraded version of DVDRip. The only disadvantage of this is that as the resolution increases, the file size also increases by a large amount.

WEBRip

This is the most commonly seen and most downloaded version on the internet. These are copied from streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. The quality is very high. Much more popular than other copies. Copies are available in both 720p/1080p. If a WEBRip has been uploaded somewhere by a Trusted & Legit Uploader, there is nothing to hesitate and download it directly.

HDTV

HDTV is the copy of TV Channels (HBO) from Streaming Service (Netflix, Hulu). HDTV and WEBRip are very similar. But some copies copied from TV do not show 18+ or Adults only scenes. But when it comes to streaming services, it is different. We can get HDTV from both resolution 720p/1080p. This is also a widely downloaded version like WEBRip.

DVDScr

DVDScr or DVD Screener are copies that are sent to government officials or the jury of awarding programs to check before the release of a movie. Most of the time, the government officials here check adult contents and disturbing contents before the final release and remove the things that need to be removed. Even though it is similar to the DVD copy, this is a copy for personal use, so things like watermarks and logos can often be seen throughout the movie.

Web-DL

These are the copies downloaded from an Online Movie/Video Distribution site (Web downloaded = Web – DL). It will not be re-encoded like other copies. Video (H.264) and Audio (AC3/AAC) are often extracted from iTunes files. After that it is converted as an MKV file without any quality loss. The special feature of these copies is that there is no watermark or logo of any kind. It’s hard to find a difference with the Blu-ray copies. This is the only copy that does not contain any kind of promotional material. That is why it is not wrong to say that this is the only Untouched copy among other copies.
